Jim and Shannon are both originally from the state of Washington. After selling off all of their assets, the couple bought a sail boat and spent 10 years and 100,000 nautical miles circumnavigating the world. On the return leg to Washington the couple and their two daughters, born abroad, anchored in Hanalei for two months. They found Hanalei to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. After returning to Washington, selling their boat and moving to the mountains to live, they decided that living outside better fits their way of life.
